Select the stock weight and heavy-media setting recommended by the printer, then use the bypass or multipurpose tray when the main cassette is not rated for index paper. Keep the tray guides snug without bending the projecting tabs. A marked plain-paper test will show which face prints and whether the tab edge needs to lead or trail through the feed path. Load only a small number of sheets for the first run, since heavy stock can double feed when the tray is overfilled. Use the exact eight-position template and print one full set before producing the remaining quantity. Let laser-printed sheets cool briefly so toner on the tab area is not rubbed during immediate handling.

Reverse-collated stock fits equipment that would otherwise deliver Position 8 before Position 1. Single reverse collated copier tabs are packaged in the opposite sequence so a compatible printer or copier can produce a finished stack in the intended binder order. Run a numbered paper test through the exact tray, simplex or duplex setting, and output option planned for production. Output behavior can change when a different tray or finishing setting is used, so do not rely on the machine brand alone. Once the correct loading direction is confirmed, record the printed face, feed edge, and position sequence beside the template. This setup reduces manual resorting and helps prevent missing or duplicated positions across repeated eight-section jobs.

Use short wording, a clean typeface, adequate contrast, and consistent capitalization. Test the longest title first because it determines the smallest practical font size for the set. Avoid crowding text to the edge of the printable area, where minor feed variation can clip letters. A manufacturer template helps place each label at the correct vertical position, but it should still be tested on ordinary paper against the actual tab stock. Numbering sections can work well when a contents sheet provides the full names. When color is used, keep the printed text clearly visible against the tab surface. Legibility matters more than fitting every descriptive word directly on the tab.

Eight dividers create repeated turning points throughout a binder, and the punched edge can weaken when the document is used often. Reinforced binding-edge copier tabs add support where the sheet meets the rings, helping the holes resist tearing during regular access. Reinforcement is especially helpful in thick manuals, shared reference files, and binders that travel between locations. It adds some bulk, so the rings must provide enough space for text sheets, covers, and all eight dividers to turn freely. Proper alignment remains important because a reinforced sheet can still bind or tear when holes are mispunched. For lightly used files, ordinary index stock may provide sufficient durability at lower thickness.
