Keep the tray guides aligned so the sheets cannot shift sideways, but do not press them tightly against the tab extensions. Run a marked plain-paper orientation test to establish the correct face and feed edge. Then load a small group of tab sheets rather than a full tray. Fan the stock gently and store unused sheets in sealed packaging, since moisture and static can cause sticking or double feeds. If the device repeatedly catches the projecting edge, stop the run and confirm that the machine is designed to handle tab stock through that feed path.

Reverse collation is helpful when the machine's output order would otherwise place Position 9 before Position 1 in the completed stack. Single reverse collated copier tabs are arranged so compatible equipment can produce the intended sequence without manual reordering. Nine positions make order errors more time-consuming to correct, so a numbered paper trial is essential. Run Position 1 through Position 9 using the exact tray, duplex setting, and output option planned for production. Inspect the finished stack and note the loading direction. Once the sequence is confirmed, keep those instructions with the template file. Reverse stock should be chosen from observed output behavior, not from assumptions about the copier brand.

Heavier stock generally adds stiffness, but durability also depends on the coating, punched-edge strength, binder capacity, and how the dividers are handled. A 110 lb index sheet may feel firmer than 90 lb stock, yet it can also be harder for some printers to feed and will add more thickness across nine dividers. A coated tab can resist surface wear, while reinforcement can protect the holes. Match these features to the document's expected use rather than choosing weight alone. Confirm the printer's media rating, test toner adhesion, and assemble one complete binder. The best option should print reliably, turn easily on the rings, and withstand the anticipated level of handling.

Nine dividers create many opportunities for hole-position differences if every sheet is punched separately. Prepunched copier tabs provide consistent placement for standard ring binders and remove a finishing step from each set. This can be valuable in recurring production where several identical binders are assembled. The hole pattern must match the rings, and the printer must feed punched index stock reliably. If the device catches the holes, printing plain tabs before punching may be safer. Test one complete set through printing and assembly before committing a large quantity. Consistent holes help all nine dividers turn together and reduce the chance that one position sits higher or lower than the others.
