Bagging Tape Sealers

Choose the throat and tape size that match the tape intended for the machine and the thickness of the gathered bag neck. A 3/8-inch setup creates a narrower taped closure, while a 5/8-inch setup provides a wider tape band and may handle a bulkier gathered neck. The correct choice depends on bag gauge, bag width, how much material is gathered, and the closure appearance required. Do not assume wider is always stronger or necessary. Confirm the tape roll width, core size, and machine specification together. Using the wrong tape can cause poor feeding, uneven wrapping, or wasted material even when the bag itself fits through the throat.

A tape sealer wraps adhesive tape around a gathered bag neck, creating a quick closure that can often be cut above the seal. An impulse sealer presses a flat bag opening between heated jaws and bonds the thermoplastic layers together. Impulse sealers are more suitable when a flat sealed seam is needed or when the package should not have a gathered neck. Tape sealing is practical for rapid closure of many small bags, while impulse sealing depends more heavily on material thickness, timer setting, and jaw length. Choose according to the required closure style, product contents, bag material, and whether reopening or tamper evidence matters.

A trimmer removes excess bag material above the taped closure and can produce a neater, more consistent finished package. It also reduces the need for a separate cutting step, which is useful when many bags are sealed during one session. The cutter should be positioned so hands do not cross the blade path while the bag is being pulled through. Consider whether the product needs extra material above the seal for carrying, labeling, or reopening before trimming every bag closely. Blade condition matters because a dull cutter can stretch or tear thin film. Choose a stable machine base and replace cutting parts when the trim becomes uneven.

A continuous heat system becomes useful when packages need a bonded seam, when bag openings remain flat, or when production volume requires conveyor feeding and repeatable temperature control. Continuous bag sealers suit workflows where filled thermoplastic bags can move through the sealing head in a steady direction. Tape sealers remain practical for gathered-neck bags and simple closures that do not need a heat bond. Consider material compatibility, package weight, seal integrity, available space, operator training, and maintenance before changing methods. The faster machine is not automatically the better choice when filling and handling remain manual or the product does not travel well on a conveyor.
