Copier Tabs with Red Colored Mylar

Confirm the sheet size, tab cut, collation direction, paper weight, printable orientation, and correct printer tray. Use the manufacturer’s template and disable automatic scaling. Run a short test that includes several tab positions rather than checking only the first sheet. Verify that headings do not extend onto the red edge unless the design intentionally accounts for reduced contrast. The printer should be configured for heavier stock so toner adheres correctly and the sheets feed without excessive curling. If the tabs will be punched after printing, leave enough clear space along the binding edge to prevent holes from cutting through text or graphics.

Tabs intended for comb binding need a hole pattern that matches the rectangular punches used by the binding system. Standard three-hole tabs will not fit a comb spine without being punched again. Confirm the document size, punch length, number of holes, and whether the tab stock can pass through the machine without exceeding its sheet capacity. Prepunched material can save time during repeated production, but only when its pattern matches the existing equipment. The available comb-punched copier tabs can support established comb-binding workflows and reduce the need to punch reinforced tab stock manually.

Keep the tabs flat in their original packaging and protect them from humidity, direct heat, dust, and pressure from heavy items. Bent corners, curled sheets, or damaged Mylar edges can cause feeding problems and visible defects in the final document. Allow stock that has been stored in a different environment to adjust to the print room before use. Do not open more cartons than needed for the immediate job. Separate partial sets carefully so the collation sequence is not disturbed. Label opened packages with the cut count, direction, and remaining position so another operator can identify the correct loading order without sorting every tab.

A high cut count is appropriate when the document contains many clearly named sections and the headings can fit within narrow tab positions. It can reduce the need for multiple repeating banks, but readability must remain the priority. Short codes, numbers, or one-word labels usually fit better than long department or procedure names. Print the longest heading at actual size before selecting the final count. Also consider how closely the tabs sit together once the document is bound. 1/12th cut copier tabs provide twelve positions for documents that require extensive indexing and concise labels.
