What Are Fastback Hard Covers?
Fastback hard covers, also called hardcover cases, are pre-made hardback shells with a pre-applied adhesive lining. You bind your pages into a book block first, then glue that block into the case using the Fastback Hardcover Guide — the cover itself never goes through the machine. The result is a clean, durable hardback with a floating spine that resists creasing. For thinner books bound with the Model 9, you use LX strips instead of Super Strips.
How to Make a Hardcover Book with Fastback
The whole process takes about a minute once your pages are ready:
| Step 1 | Add endleaves to the front and back of your collated pages to form the book block. |

| Step 2 | Bind the book block with the correct strip (LX on the Model 9, Super Strip on the Model 20). |
| Step 3 | Let the bind cure on the cooling rack, then place the hardcover case in the Hardcover Guide. |
| Step 4 | Peel the lining and press the book block onto the case adhesive, front then back. |
| Step 5 | Close the cover, rub down the inner liners, and your hardcover book is finished. |
