Thickness does not correct a sizing mismatch, so determine the final trimmed dimensions before ordering. Include any tab extension, rounded corners, or window placement in the physical mockup. A properly sized cover should protect the document without interfering with turning, punching, or the chosen binding element.

A window is helpful when a logo, title, client name, or reference number must show clearly without printing on the plastic itself. Binding covers with windows provide a defined opening and often pair the front with a matching solid back. Confirm the window dimensions and position against the printed title sheet before production, since even a small layout shift can hide important information. Pre-punched covers can also reduce finishing time when the hole pattern exactly matches the binding system. The window, punch pattern, cover size, and document orientation should be planned together. A physical proof confirms that the visible information is centered and that the opening does not weaken the area near the binding edge.

A 35mil poly cover is thicker than ordinary paper stock, so the punch must be rated for plastic covers and the selected binding pattern. Process one cover at a time unless the equipment instructions allow more. Keep the edge guide fixed so the front, back, and interior sheets align after assembly. Coil, comb, wire, and VeloBind systems use different hole shapes and spacing, making a pre-punched option useful only when the pattern is an exact match. If the holes appear rough, incomplete, or stretched, stop rather than applying more force. Testing one front and one back cover protects the punch and confirms that the finished document will turn without resistance.

Use the same material on both sides when uniform appearance and similar flexibility matter. A mixed arrangement can be more practical when the front needs translucent visibility and the back needs a different level of support or printability. Paper and poly binding covers allow a frosted plastic front to be paired with card stock, textured paper, or another durable back material. Measure the complete document after both covers are included because a 35mil front adds noticeable thickness at the spine. Punch different materials in separate lifts when required. The final pair should protect the contents, support comfortable handling, and fit the visual purpose of the document rather than simply matching by color.
