Graphic Whizard Creasers

A creaser prepares the sheet by making a clean fold line. A paper folder folds the sheet into the final shape. Some jobs need both steps, especially when the paper is thick, coated, digitally printed, or likely to crack. Folding without creasing can damage toner or cause an uneven fold on heavier stock. Creasing first gives the fold a controlled path, then a folder can handle the final fold more consistently. If the work is mostly letters or light flyers, paper folders may be enough. If the work includes heavy covers, short-run cards, menus, or coated sheets, a creaser should be considered before the folding step.

Look at the number of crease positions, memory features, sheet size range, and production speed. Some Graphic Whizard models are made for simple short-run creasing, while others handle more crease locations per sheet and store repeat jobs. That matters when you produce greeting cards, tent cards, folded covers, menus, or pieces with several fold positions. If the same job comes back often, job memory can reduce setup time and operator error. If every job is different, easy setup and quick testing may matter more than maximum speed. Confirm paper weight support as well, because creasing light paper and heavier cover stock require different pressure and setup.

Use creasing when the piece needs to fold cleanly without cracking. Use perforating when the piece needs to tear away, such as coupons, response cards, tickets, forms, or removable sections. Some finishing equipment supports both, but the right choice depends on the final action the customer takes. A folded brochure cover needs a crease, not a tear line. A reply card needs perforation, not just a crease. Jobs with both folding and tear-off sections may need both operations in sequence. For a cleaner finished kit, pair creasing or perforating with suitable cutting, trimming, or corner rounders when the final piece needs softened edges.

Test the exact paper, print coverage, grain direction, fold direction, and crease pressure before committing to the full run. A sheet can crease well in one direction and crack in another, especially with coated or toner-heavy prints. Check whether the fold should go with or against the grain. Run a few waste sheets first, adjust the depth or pressure, then fold the sample and inspect the outside of the fold. Also confirm the crease position against the finished trim size, because a small setup error can affect every piece. For repeat jobs, save settings when the machine supports job memory. That reduces setup time and improves consistency across future runs.
