Wide green bar forms are often used for reports with many columns, while shorter form lengths can suit reports that need more frequent perforations. Confirm the complete form dimensions, including the detachable tractor-feed margins, rather than relying only on the printable area. The software must also align its line spacing and page breaks with the form perforations. A report designed for one form length may print across the tear line when a different size is loaded. Before ordering several cases, run a complete report using the same dimensions and make sure headings, totals, and page breaks appear in the intended positions. Proper sizing supports reliable feeding and makes finished reports easier to separate, organise, read, and file.

Choose the paper weight according to printer capability, handling needs, and storage requirements. Lighter 15 lb paper reduces bulk and may be suitable for high-volume reports that are handled briefly. An 18 lb sheet provides a more conventional continuous-paper feel and works well for many routine reporting tasks. A 20 lb sheet is sturdier and may be preferable when reports will be handled repeatedly, distributed, or retained for longer periods. Older impact printers can be sensitive to changes in paper stiffness and thickness, so confirm the supported range before switching weights. When green ruling is unnecessary, blank computer paper may suit the same feeding setup while providing a plain printing surface. Testing one case before changing a large paper supply can prevent feeding problems.

The spacing describes how frequently the alternating green and white horizontal bands appear across the form. The pattern is intended to make wide rows of figures easier to follow from one side of the report to the other. A broader band may suit reports with larger text or fewer lines, while narrower spacing can support dense reports with many rows. The spacing does not determine printer compatibility, but it should align comfortably with the report’s line spacing and the way employees read the finished output. Consider the type of data being printed, how closely the rows are packed, and whether users will read the reports on a desk or store them in files. A suitable pattern reduces the chance of following the wrong line when reviewing lengthy financial, inventory, payroll, or operational reports.

Use carbonless forms when the printer must create two or more copies during a single printing pass. Green bar paper is generally a single-part reporting paper intended to make long rows easier to read. It does not automatically produce duplicate copies. Carbonless forms use coated sheets that transfer the impact from a dot matrix printer to the sheets below, creating multiple records without separate carbon paper. Before choosing carbonless computer paper, confirm the number of parts needed, the sheet sequence, the printer’s multipart-form capacity, and whether each copy requires a different colour. Use green bar paper for readable continuous reports and multipart forms for invoices, receipts, shipping documents, or records that must be distributed to several departments at the same time.
