Remove and measure an existing blade only when proper handling procedures and protective equipment are available. Otherwise, use the machine manual, parts record, or previous purchase documentation. The wider range of paper cutter replacement blades also shows why matching by machine and blade position is essential rather than relying on length alone.

High-speed steel blades are generally selected for demanding production where the cutting edge must remain sharp through frequent use or abrasive materials. High-carbon or high-carbon high-chrome blades may offer a practical balance of sharpness, durability, and cost for more typical cutting workloads. The better option depends on the approved blade specification for the machine, cutting volume, stock type, sharpening schedule, and acceptable downtime. Do not substitute one blade material for another unless the replacement is confirmed for the equipment. A harder edge may retain sharpness longer, but it may also require specialised sharpening. Stop using the machine if the blade is loose, damaged, or making unexpected contact. Continued operation can damage the cutter and create a serious safety risk. Blade removal and installation should follow the equipment’s documented service procedure.

Inspect the cutting stick, blade bolts, mounting surfaces, clamp action, blade carrier, guards, and any alignment components involved in the cutting cycle. A worn cutting stick can damage a new edge or prevent clean cuts through the bottom of the stack. Mounting surfaces should be clean and free from debris so the blade seats evenly.
