A small reduction in insert size can significantly improve durability.

Cards worn daily usually need enough stiffness to resist curling while remaining comfortable and compatible with the attachment hardware. A 7 mil pouch generally creates a firmer result than a lightweight option, while 10 mil can produce a more rigid card-like finish. The chosen pouch laminator must support the selected thickness. Also consider whether the card will pass through a reader, fit inside another holder, or be stored with many similar cards. Excess thickness may interfere with those uses. Test the finished card with the actual clip or lanyard and make sure the slot area does not crack, stretch, or bend sharply during ordinary movement.

Pre-slotted pouches reduce the risk of placing the opening too close to the insert or cutting through the sealed border after lamination. They also improve consistency when many cards require the same hanging direction. Punching after lamination may still be useful when the exact position varies or when standard unslotted pouches are already available. When creating a slot manually, the laminate must be fully cooled, the punch must support the total thickness, and enough sealed material must remain around the opening. A poorly positioned slot can weaken the pouch or expose the insert. For routine production, pre-slotted supplies usually simplify alignment and reduce the number of finishing steps required for each card.

Choose the attachment according to how the card will be worn, accessed, or displayed. A lanyard works well when the card should remain visible at chest level. A strap clip suits direct clothing attachment, while a retractable badge reel is practical when the card must be pulled toward a reader repeatedly. Confirm that the hook, strap, or clip fits through the slot without forcing it. Hardware that is too wide can stretch the opening, while a thin metal edge may wear through softer laminate over time.
