Ivory Pre-Punched Paper

Lighter paper can keep thick manuals manageable and reduce spine size, while heavier stock provides more opacity and a firmer feel. The correct choice depends on page count, printing method, ink coverage, duplex printing, and how often the document will be handled. A high page count on heavy paper can create a bulky document that requires a larger binding element. Lighter ivory sheets may show text from the reverse side if the print is dense. Confirm that the copier or printer supports the selected weight and can feed pre-punched stock without catching the holes. Print several duplex samples to assess show-through, curl, and toner coverage. Then calculate the finished stack thickness rather than choosing a binding spine only from the number of sheets.

It is suitable when the hole pattern, pitch, and sheet dimensions match the coil-binding system. Coil-binding pre-punched paper can eliminate the punching stage and improve consistency on repeat jobs. Coil patterns may differ in hole count and pitch, so a sheet described only as coil punched is not enough information. Confirm whether the machine and coil use the same specification. The paper should also be loaded so the punched edge remains in the correct orientation after printing. Pre-punched sheets can save considerable time, but they require careful printer setup because holes may catch if the stock is curled or loaded incorrectly. A short test run can confirm feeding and image position.

The correct orientation depends on the device’s paper path and whether it prints face up or face down. Use a small numbered test to identify which edge enters first and which side receives the image. The punched edge should not pass through a feed path that causes catching, tearing, or poor registration. Fan the sheets gently if permitted, keep them flat, and avoid loading damaged paper. Adjust the tray guides so the stack remains aligned without being pinched. Duplex printing may rotate or reverse the sheet, so confirm both sides before producing the full job. Save the successful tray and driver settings for repeat work. Some devices handle pre-punched stock better through a bypass or straight-through feed path than through the main tray.

Unpunched stock is preferable when the final binding style may change, several punch patterns are used, or the document requires a non-standard hole position. Ivory unpunched paper also allows printing to be completed before the sheets are punched, which can simplify orientation in some devices. It does add a separate production step and requires access to a compatible punch. Pre-punched paper is usually more efficient for repeat jobs with a fixed specification. Consider total labour, expected waste, machine capacity, and the number of documents being produced. If the punching equipment handles only small stacks, pre-punched stock may save more time than its higher purchase cost suggests.
