A 5 mil pouch remains relatively flexible and may suit short events, temporary badges, or cards replaced often. A 7 mil pouch provides additional support for routine workplace use. A 10 mil pouch creates a more rigid card for credentials that need longer service. The correct thickness also depends on the attachment. Cards worn from lanyards should remain comfortable while retaining enough structure to stay readable and resist folding. Confirm the laminator’s maximum pouch thickness before ordering. The chosen material should provide enough durability without making the finished card too bulky for the intended hardware, holder, reader, or storage method.

A separate holder may still be useful when printed cards change frequently, need additional protection, or must be removed without cutting the attachment. A slotted laminated card can connect directly to a lanyard or clip, reducing the number of components required. However, replacing the printed information means producing and laminating a new card. A holder allows inserts to be changed while the attachment remains in use. It may also protect the slot from direct pulling. Consider replacement frequency, working conditions, security requirements, and presentation. Permanent cards may work well as laminated pieces, while visitor passes, rotating staff credentials, and temporary event cards may be easier to manage with replaceable inserts.

Choose the attachment according to how the card will be worn and accessed. Lanyards suit visible identification, badge reels allow cards to extend toward readers, and strap clips provide a compact connection to clothing or another holder. The slot and attachment must fit together without forcing the laminate outward. A wider hook may stress the sealed area, while a narrow fitting may allow the card to twist. The available badge holders with clips can also support situations where the printed insert needs to be changed more frequently. Test the full setup while walking, reaching, and using the card normally to identify twisting, snagging, or excessive pressure around the slot.
