The holes must sit at the correct distance from the edge and align across covers, inserts, tabs, and body sheets. If the document will include mixed materials, confirm that every component shares the same finished dimensions before ordering. Dark toner generally gives stronger contrast, but the final result depends on the design and printer. Unpunched stock makes more sense when the punch pattern has not been finalized, the same color will support several binding methods, or the document needs custom hole placement. It also gives production teams control over when punching occurs, which can help when sheets must be printed, cut, collated, or folded first. Prepunched stock saves setup time and removes a production step, but only when its hole layout already matches the equipment and finished format. If future jobs may use different dies or spacing, unpunched paper keeps that decision open until production. The better route depends on whether speed or flexibility carries more value for the work being produced.
