Frequently Asked Questions

Medium LX Strips are made for the Fastback 9. They should not be ordered for the Fastback 20, even when the document length, colour, and width appear suitable. The Fastback 9 uses the folded LX style that is placed into the binding area according to that machine’s process. Fastback 9 supplies keep compatible strip and cover choices grouped around the correct machine. Before ordering, confirm the model label on the equipment and the full strip name on any existing box. If more than one Fastback model is used in the same room, store LX supplies separately to prevent a similar looking strip from being assigned to the wrong machine.

Medium LX width is intended for book blocks of roughly 126 to 250 sheets of standard twenty pound paper, or approximately one half to one inch in thickness. Heavier stock, dividers, covers, folded inserts, and laminated sheets can reduce the number of sheets that fit, so measure the assembled document rather than relying only on a sheet count. Fastback LX Strips are available by width and colour for Fastback 9 work, making thickness the main sizing decision. Jog the book block square and include every cover and insert during measurement. A strip that is too narrow may not close properly, while excessive width can leave an untidy spine.

Both are designed for the Fastback 9 and use the LX placement method, but their surface appearance is different. Standard LX Strips provide the regular textured Fastback finish, while LX Comp Strips are designed to coordinate with Composition style covers and projects that need a more matched spine appearance. The choice is therefore based mainly on finish and cover coordination after machine compatibility and width have been confirmed. Do not confuse LX Comp with standard Composition Strips used by other Fastback machines. The word “Comp” describes the coordinated style, but the LX name identifies the Fastback 9 strip family. Keep the original packaging so staff can distinguish the two supplies during repeat work.

Include the front cover, back cover, tabs, title sheets, and any stiff inserts when measuring the book block. Their thickness can move the document from narrow to medium width. The cover material must also tolerate the Fastback 9 process and allow the strip to form a clean spine. Clear binding covers are one option for displaying a title sheet, but thickness and heat suitability should be confirmed for the full setup. Align covers carefully with the text block before binding, since movement can create an uneven edge. A complete sample is useful when the job includes heavy stock, coated covers, unusual sizes, or several internal dividers.

Keep strips flat, dry, clean, and protected in their original packaging. Label each box with strip family, width, length, colour, and compatible machine so medium LX supplies are not mixed with standard Composition, Super, CP, or Perfectback strips. Avoid heat, moisture, dust, bending, and pressure that could affect the folded shape or adhesive area. Use older stock first when it has been stored correctly, and retain the item information from successful jobs. If a strip looks damaged, contaminated, or distorted, do not place it into the machine. Simple stock records help maintain consistent colours and prevent urgent orders caused by unopened boxes being mistaken for another Fastback strip type.
