The roll must fit the laminator shaft, core system, maximum web width, and supported roll diameter. Choose a width that covers the print with enough allowance for alignment and trimming without creating unnecessary waste. The substrate width and worktable space also matter because the mounted piece must remain supported as it exits the rollers. Confirm whether the adhesive is loaded on the upper or lower unwind position and which side carries the release liner. For repeated standard sizes, a roll close to the usual print width can reduce trimming. For varied jobs, a wider roll may be useful, but only when the equipment can handle its weight and the extra material can be managed safely.

A pressure sensitive roll is suitable when the bond is created through roller pressure rather than heat activation. It can support prints, photographs, displays, and graphics that need attachment to foam board, plastic sheet, metal, or another approved substrate. Pressure sensitive mounting adhesive rolls are available in different widths, thicknesses, and adhesive constructions. Confirm whether the product is permanent, removable, or repositionable and which side carries the adhesive. The print, adhesive, and board must remain compatible as a complete construction. Test a finished sample for bubbles, silvering, edge lift, and surface reaction before processing an important production run.

The print and substrate should be clean, dry, flat, and free from dust, grease, silicone, loose fibres, and cutting debris. Small particles can create visible bumps under smooth graphics, while surface coatings may reduce adhesion. Allow printed work to dry or outgas for the required period before mounting. Handle the adhesive and print edges carefully to avoid fingerprints or damaged corners. If the board is bowed, warped, or rough, pressure alone may not create even contact. Work in a clean area and use consistent roller pressure. A small sample on the actual substrate is especially important when the surface is painted, recycled, textured, or treated with an unknown coating.

Confirm board material, thickness, surface colour, coating, rigidity, size, and whether the laminator can open far enough for the completed construction. Mounting boards include foam, plastic, and other rigid options for different display needs. Dark boards may require an opaque print or backing, while lightweight foam can dent if roller pressure is too high. Consider edge finishing, hanging method, transport, and whether the graphic will remain indoors. The board should stay flat during mounting and provide enough surface strength for the intended display period. Produce one complete piece before cutting all prints and boards to final size.
