Before replacing the stick, determine whether it has another usable surface that can be rotated into position. Also inspect the knife because a dull blade can cause similar symptoms. The stick should sit evenly along the cutter bed without gaps or movement. A maintenance record can help track rotations and replacements, particularly in facilities where several operators use the same cutter. Delaying service can increase paper waste and make accurate diagnosis more difficult.

Rotation can extend service life when the stick is designed with several usable sides and the remaining surfaces are undamaged. Follow the machine procedure and ensure the newly positioned surface sits at the correct height. A badly warped, cracked, loose, or deeply damaged stick should be replaced rather than rotated. After rotating or replacing the stick, test several cuts across the full width before returning the cutter to regular production.

Material affects how the knife enters the stick, how quickly grooves develop, and how the part responds to repeated cutting. A harder option is not automatically better because the knife still needs a suitable landing surface. Use the grade recommended for the machine and cutting conditions. If several stick types are offered for one model, consider the normal workload rather than choosing only by price or colour. Consistent installation and rotation practices often have as much effect on service life as the selected material grade.

Inspect the blade edge, knife depth, clamp operation, cutter bed, safety components, and stack alignment tools. Poor cut quality can result from more than one worn or incorrectly adjusted part. Paper debris should be removed before the new stick is installed, and the first test cuts should be observed across the entire cutting length.
