Paper can suit posters, proofs, and short term indoor graphics where low weight and easy printing matter. Vinyl provides greater flexibility and resistance for decals, signs, and installed graphics. Fabric may be useful for banners, backdrops, and displays that need folding or a softer appearance. Rigid media supports freestanding or mounted work but requires equipment capable of direct printing or a separate mounting process. Consider handling, installation, transport, surface texture, and disposal. The best material is the one that meets the actual display conditions without adding unnecessary cost, weight, or production steps.

Accessories become important when rolls must be stored safely, moved frequently, trimmed accurately, or applied without damaging the printed surface. Roll racks can reduce edge damage and keep media off the floor, while squeegees and application tools support smoother installation. Core plugs, lifting equipment, and cutting tools may also be needed for wide or heavy rolls. The right print media accessories should solve a specific handling, storage, or installation need. Planning these items alongside the media helps prevent waste caused by poor storage or improvised tools.

Gloss finishes can deepen colour and create a bright appearance, but reflections may reduce readability under strong lighting. Matte surfaces reduce glare and often suit text heavy graphics, exhibitions, and displays viewed from several angles. Satin and lustre finishes provide a middle ground with some colour enhancement and less reflection than high gloss. Texture can also affect cleaning, installation, and the appearance of fine details. Consider lighting, viewing distance, fingerprints, and whether an overlaminate will change the final surface. Testing a sample with the actual artwork is more reliable than choosing a finish from its name alone.

Overlamination can add resistance to abrasion, moisture, fingerprints, sunlight, and cleaning, depending on the selected film. It may be worthwhile for signage, frequently handled graphics, window displays, floor applications, and work expected to remain installed for longer periods. The film must be compatible with the ink, media, installation surface, and application equipment. It also changes the finish and stiffness of the graphic. Pressure sensitive laminating films provide several protective surfaces for heat sensitive or wide format prints that need pressure applied protection.
