The correct option depends on paper thickness, coating, grain direction, toner coverage, finished fold, and whether the sheet must remain intact. Some machines accept interchangeable tools, while others require dedicated assemblies. Confirm the intended process and material before selecting the accessory.

Use a crease width that suits the stock thickness and finished fold. Thin paper may need a narrower impression, while heavier card stock often benefits from a wider channel that allows the material to fold without crushing or cracking. Printed areas with heavy toner or coating can also require a more suitable crease profile. Some systems use matched male and female components, so changing one part without the corresponding component may produce poor results. Jobs involving thicker covers or presentation materials may also require suitable paper scoring machines with adjustment options that match the stock and production volume. Always test the actual printed material before processing the complete run.

Replacement may be needed when the line becomes inconsistent, the paper begins cracking despite correct setup, the tool develops visible wear, or pressure cannot be applied evenly across the sheet. Before replacing the part, confirm that the machine is clean, aligned, and adjusted for the paper thickness and grain direction. Dull perforating wheels may leave incomplete cuts, while worn creasing components can produce shallow or irregular channels. Use only suitable cleaning and maintenance methods because abrasives or incorrect lubricants can damage precision surfaces. Keep test samples from successful jobs so changes in output quality can be identified more easily. Replacement should be based on repeated output problems rather than one poorly prepared sheet.

After the line is formed, sheets may still need folding, trimming, perforating, binding, or booklet production. Small jobs can often be folded manually, while repeated or high-volume work benefits from equipment that maintains consistent alignment and pressure. The fold direction should follow the scored or creased line without forcing the stock against its intended movement. Operations handling larger quantities may use paper folding machines, provided the sheet size, paper weight, fold style, and production volume fall within the machine’s specifications. Test the complete process using the actual printed stock before committing the full job.
