Small Bookmark Laminating Pouches With Slots

Leave enough clear laminate between the slot and the top of the printed bookmark so the attachment pulls against sealed film rather than paper. The exact distance depends on the slot dimensions, pouch length, and type of clip or ring. A narrow strip of laminate may tear after repeated movement, especially when the finished item is heavy or frequently handled. Prepare a full-size paper sample showing the insert, slot, and attachment hardware before ordering a large quantity. After lamination, test the bookmark by hanging and removing it several times. This helps confirm that the slot area remains sealed and does not bend excessively.

The slot may accept lanyard hooks, strap clips, split rings, loops, or other narrow connectors, depending on its dimensions and orientation. The attachment should pass through without forcing the laminate or stretching the slot. Heavy metal fittings may place unnecessary strain on a narrow bookmark pouch, while a lightweight plastic strap can be more suitable for repeated use. Related lanyards and badge attachments should be selected according to slot width, finished item weight, and how the bookmark will be worn or displayed. Test the exact attachment with one laminated sample before placing a large order.

A special laminator is generally not required, but the machine must support the pouch thickness and feed the narrow item straight. The slot does not change the heating process, although small pouches can shift more easily than letter-size materials. Use a carrier when the machine requires one, and always feed the factory-sealed edge first rather than the slotted end. The pouch should remain flat and centred throughout the pass. Allow it to cool before attaching a clip, ring, or lanyard. Pulling against a warm slot can distort the laminate or weaken the bond near the top edge.

A pre-slotted pouch provides a consistent opening and removes the need to measure and punch each finished bookmark. It is useful for repeated jobs with the same orientation and attachment position. Punching afterward offers more flexibility when slot placement changes between designs, but the bookmark must leave enough clear laminate above the insert. A dedicated slot punch should be used to create a clean opening without cracking or tearing the film. Pre-slotted pouches are usually the simpler choice for standard production, while post-lamination punching is more practical for custom layouts or occasional batches.
