Consider whether the document will be copied or scanned later, because colored backgrounds can affect reproduction. Duplex jobs should also be examined for show-through and alignment. If the color is mainly intended for navigation, using it on section sheets may preserve readability better than printing every sheet on the same shade. Approval should be based on the finished output, not an on-screen preview.

Confirm that the printer or copier accepts the selected sheet size, paper weight, color stock, and quantity. Review the feed tray settings, grain direction when relevant, duplex capability, and whether the output path can handle the finished job without curling or marking. The range of unpunched binding paper includes formats intended for later customization, but the planned punch or finishing equipment must also support the paper. Leave an adequate binding margin in the file, even though the sheets arrive without holes. Test printing, folding, scoring, cutting, and punching on a few sheets before a full run. This confirms that the paper moves cleanly through every stage rather than only through the printer.

Unpunched paper remains flexible until the final binding method is selected. This is useful when one department uses comb binding, another uses coil, and a third places the same printed material in ring binders. It also helps when documents are produced in portrait and wide-format layouts or when holes must be placed after trimming. Keeping the stock unpunched reduces the risk of ordering a pattern that later becomes unsuitable. The tradeoff is that punching requires equipment time, trained operators, and consistent setup. Consider the normal number of sheets per job and the punch capacity available. Unpunched stock is most practical when the added finishing step provides meaningful flexibility rather than simply moving work from the supplier to the production team.

Printing before punching is often safer when printer sensors, feed rollers, or duplex paths may react to holes along the sheet edge. It also allows the printed stack to be trimmed or inspected before the final pattern is added. Punching first can work when the printer is approved for pre-punched stock and the orientation is carefully controlled. Pre-punched paper removes the in-house punching step when a fixed pattern is used repeatedly. For unpunched Terra Green stock, consider printer reliability, job volume, punch capacity, and the risk of placing holes on the wrong edge. Whichever sequence is chosen, use a marked sample to confirm the top, front, and binding edge before the full batch is processed.
