Use ordinary paper for forms, notices, or records that need flexibility and easy filing. Cardstock is more suitable when the separated section must feel firmer, survive repeated handling, or function as a ticket, coupon, or durable card. The printer must accept the selected weight and sheet size without curling, slipping, or jamming. Think about how each section will be written on, stored, mailed, or carried after tearing. A heavier option may improve handling but can make folding and high-volume printing more difficult. Test the final artwork on a small quantity and inspect the tear edge, toner adhesion, writing surface, and stiffness before ordering enough material for a repeated job.

Vertical perforation is useful when the removable section sits along the left or right side of a form. Horizontal perforation works better for bottom stubs, top sections, equal panels, or documents that separate across the sheet width. Decide which section remains with the main document and which section leaves with the recipient, then build the artwork around that workflow. Do not rotate a completed design simply to fit another tear direction because reading order, mailing windows, filing margins, and printer orientation may all change. Printer feeding depends on sheet size, stock weight, paper condition, tray settings, and the position of the weakened line. Store the sheets flat in a dry place and use the feed path recommended for specialty media. Load a small quantity and confirm the print side and orientation before running the full job. Heavy toner coverage directly over the perforation may crack when the sections are separated, so keep critical artwork away from the tear line unless testing proves the result is acceptable. Print several samples, allow them to cool or dry, and tear each one. Watch for skewing, rough edges, curl, misregistration, or sheets catching as they travel through the printer.

Confirm the sheet dimensions, paper weight, tear direction, exact distance from the edge, number of perforations, color, quantity, and printer compatibility. Similar-looking sheets can place the line at different measurements, which may shift a receipt, label, or filing section into the wrong area. Label open packages clearly and store vertical stock separately from horizontal formats. Measure placement from the same reference edge every time.
