Choose casters that can support the full loaded weight and move smoothly across the flooring used in your workspace. Locking casters are important because the cart should remain steady while equipment is running, materials are being loaded, or operators are applying pressure. Wheel size also affects movement. Smaller wheels may work on smooth floors, while larger casters generally handle thresholds, seams, and uneven surfaces more easily. Consider whether all wheels lock or only selected casters, and verify that the locking controls remain accessible after equipment is placed on the cart. A cart that moves easily when empty may behave differently once fully loaded, so turning space, braking, balance, and the route between work areas should all be considered.

The right arrangement depends on how often each supply is used and whether it needs protection from dust, heat, bending, or unauthorized access. Open shelves keep frequently used materials easy to reach, while cabinets provide cleaner and more secure storage for tools, consumables, and sensitive supplies. Heavy items should remain on lower shelves to keep the cart stable. Store materials near the equipment that uses them, but leave enough clearance for ventilation, power cords, and operator movement. A dedicated binding workstation can be useful when the setup must hold a binding machine, covers, binding elements, and finishing tools in one organized area. Good storage should shorten handling time without overcrowding the working surface.

Leave enough room for material feeding, finished output, controls, ventilation, and safe access to the machine. Equipment dimensions often exclude trays, guides, extensions, or materials that project beyond the main housing during operation. A laminator may need clearance at both the front and rear, while a cutter or binding machine may need side space for larger sheets. Check where heat, waste, trimmed material, or finished documents exit so another shelf or wall does not block the workflow. Operators should be able to reach controls without leaning across moving or heated parts. Power cords should also run without being pinched or stretched. Measuring the complete operating setup prevents a workstation from becoming too cramped after the equipment is installed.

A cabinet is useful when supplies, tools, or equipment controls need protection from dust, accidental handling, or unauthorized access. Lockable storage can be helpful in shared offices, production rooms, libraries, and other spaces where several people use the same area. Open shelves are more convenient when supplies must be reached repeatedly throughout the day and security is not a concern. Some workplaces benefit from both, using an open shelf for active materials and a cabinet for replacement supplies or tools.
