When all your papers are together, we suggest starting with the covers. With the precision margin edge guide, you can select and set what size paper you'll use. Your choices are 11" Letter, US Cover, or A4. Once selected and set for the project, make your punches. Now for the back cover. The C95 claims to punch 15 sheets of 20lb paper at a time. This simply is not true. You'll want to think more in terms of 8-10 sheets at a time.
Once all your holes are punched, assemble your book in order and you're ready to bind with a plastic comb. The C95 has a handy comb selection guide to help you determine the appropriate comb size for your project. The plastic comb goes over the metal teeth in the front. In comb binding, be sure to keep the comb faced up and the project faced down. That way the booklet does not come apart in use. With a simple counter clockwise turning of the rotary comb opening, the teeth of the comb open up for use. Keeping the project faced down, line everything up and hang it over the teeth. Using the rotary knob again, you close the teeth of the comb. Being sure that none of the papers pop out of the teeth, close the comb all the way.

In short, it’s easy to use, does a good job, is lightweight, is inexpensive, and doesn’t take up much room. Let’s look at the specific features of the C95.
Punch capacity is always a consideration. GBC claims you can cut 15 sheets of 20lb paper. However, we find with most users this would be a bit difficult; eight, ten, maybe eleven is more accurate. And the punching arm is truly set up for right-handed use only.
There is a precision margin edge guide that allows consistency in punching eleven inch, US cover, or A4 sized documents. It has a comb selection guide to help you determine the appropriate comb size for your project. The C95 is capable of binding with combs of up to 3/4 of an inch, which is about 170 pages. Though a bit slow, the rotary comb opening is easy to use.
The C95 is lightweight and compact, and will fit in most places in an office or home. And the carrying handle is quite convenient, especially when accessing the waste tray.

GBC CombBind C95 Comb Binding Machine Review
Plastic comb binding machines and the GBC name go hand-in-hand. The company makes a number of these devices and one of their smaller machines is the CombBind C95. This product was designed for light use both at home and in the workplace. It has a lot of great features, but there are a couple of things that could be improved. Here are this device’s strengths and weaknesses.
The strengths:
- The C95 can punch up to 15 sheets of paper at a time. It’s capable of binding books that contain as many as 170 pages. A number of different combs are compatible with this machine, including ones that are 3/4″.
- Selecting the right comb will be very easy because the C95 has a comb selector guide. Just measure the thickness of your document and match it with with the appropriate comb size. It couldn’t be easier and it takes a lot of guesswork out of the process.
- Opening your combs once they’re selected will also be easy. This machine has a rotary dial you can use to open the comb as wide as you need.
- In addition to plastic combs, this device is compatible with GBC ZipBind spines. Documents bound with ZipBind spines are easy to edit, so they’re great supplies to use if you anticipate changing your document in the future.
- The C95 has a precision margin edge guide so that all of your documents will be aligned properly and look great.
- This machine is very compact and it won’t take up very much room in your home or workplace. It’s also lightweight (it weighs less than 20 pounds) and it has a carrying handle so you’ll be able to use it on the go if you need to.
- The C95 is reasonably priced so purchasing it won’t break the bank. It comes with a limited one-year warranty so you’re covered in case something goes wrong.
The weaknesses:
- A 15-page punching capacity isn’t bad, but it’s not terrific either. If you have to put together a lot of documents, you’re going to be punching for a long time which could be inconvenient. (And tedious.)
- The punching handle is located on the right side of the C95. While this is handy for right-handed users, left-handed people could find using this device to be a bit of a pain.
- Since this is basically an entry-level machine, it lacks the advanced features found in higher-end devices including disengageable dies. Thus, you’ll be limited in the size of documents you can produce.
In conclusion:
The GBC CombBind C95 would be a good choice for people looking for a light-duty comb binding machine for shorter documents. Although the punching capacity leaves a little something to be desired and the placement of the handle is inconvenient for southpaws, this device is overall a respectable binding machine that happens to be reasonably priced and it comes with a good warranty. So if you need a light-duty binder, make sure you consider the C95.
