When time is money, you can’t afford to cut corners on quality productivity, and now you don’t have to cut corners. GBC can save you time and make you money with its most advance production laminators. Introducing the Discovery Series Heat Shoe Laminators from GBC, as the demand for color printing grows, so does the demand for color finishing. Lamination adds dimension to today’s colored graphics especially digital colored graphics which rely on finishing for survival and as well as enhancement. The Discovery Series is the next generation of dependable innovative production laminators from GBC. GBC’s on going commitment to the printing and finishing industry has produced laminators that offer productivity without sacrificing quality, economy without sacrificing versatility. The Discovery Series Laminators are ideal for commercial as well as in plant production environments because of their unique Heat Shoe design which provides greater productivity than traditional table top models.
Heat Shoes allow even heavy gauge lamination to be done at higher speeds. Here’s how heat shoes work. The heat shoe laminator is designed so that film passes over a wide heating surface or heat shoe before entering the nip point. The film is pre heated long enough to allow it to run through the nip rollers much faster than it can through heated roller models. Even heavy gauge films can move to the nip point at higher speeds. With earlier technologies, heat is applied to the back of the shoe, and conducted through to the front surface of the shoe. However, this process results in slow heat recovery and uneven heat distribution which ultimately affects output quality and productivity.
The GBC Discovery Series Laminators differ from traditional heat shoe machines because of their unique infrared heating coil design. Each shoe contains 2 quarts glass-enclosed heating elements which are embedded in the shoe. This provides even heat distribution, quicker response, and maximum energy efficiency. What’s more each shoe can be controlled independently of the other, making it possible to combine different films on the same job. This provides this provides infinite opportunities for diverse applications. An LCD display keeps the operator informed of temperature settings and status on Discovery’s Micro Processor Controls respond quickly to heat loss. The Discovery features an exclusive stand by function which reduces the temperature after 3 hours of non use and a power down function which shuts off the power completely after 4 hours of non use. When it comes to productivity it’s hard to beat the rugged reliability of the Discovery Series. The discoveries are ideal for printers, lamination houses and in house plants alike. Consider their long list of labor saving features, like the exclusive job memory function which allows the operator the program the speed and temperature settings of up to 9 different jobs at once. If work is interrupted or if multiple operators will be working on the same job at different times you can be sure that the quality of the output will be consistent.
The operator simply presses the job key, return to the exact temperature and speed to set at the beginning of the job. Continuous operation is easy when set ups and reloads are minimum. The Discovery Series Laminators will accommodate rolls of film up to 2000 feet long, so you’ll spend less time changing supply rolls. But when it is time to reload, the sliding idler bar makes threading easy. Film alignment can be done quickly and effortlessly on the fly, with GBC’s exclusive easy line film shafts, saving time on both film alignment and roller cleaning. The Discovery Series will boost productivity even more by cutting trimming time in half. Three built-in adjustable slitters allow you to trim the sides of your document and separate side by side documents as you laminate. The Discovery Series Production Laminators are as versatile as they are productive. The Discovery 50 accommodates documents to 20 inches wide and will run 12 x 18 sheets or side by side 8 ½ x 11 sheets. The Discovery 80, accommodates posters 31 inches wide, or 12 x 18 sheets side by side. Both rollers run from 1.5 mil to 10 mil thick, making virtually any application possible, from posters to placemats, calendars, to signage. And although the Discovery features a standard 2 ¼ inch film core, it can be adapted easily to accommodate 1 inch and 3 inch cores for maximum supply flexibility.
Lamination quality depends on the right combination of heat, speed and pressure. Quality output is assured with the Discovery State of the Art Technology. GBC’s unique infrared heat coil technology combined with Teflon-coated heat shoes minimize scratches, and ensure clear consistent output. Film speed can be varied from 1 to 20 feet per minute to suit any job. Roller pressure can be easily adjusted during operation using the calibrated handle on the side of the machine. This sets the gap between the rollers based on the thickness of the materials being laminated. To create a better edge seal when running materials to up, the nip rollers are crowned to put additional pressure at the center of the rollers where the two prints meet.
Very little maintenance is required on the Discovery Series Laminators. Periodic cleaning of the rollers is safe and easy because of the swing away heat shoe design. Should you require additional maintenance, remember GBC is the only laminator manufacturer that offers on site service to support your operation. As the leading manufacturer of laminating equipment and supplies GBC carries the largest in-stock inventory of thermal laminating films in the world. Whatever the job, GBC can deliver the film and do it beautifully every time. You’ll find plenty of reasons to love the productivity of the Discovery Series.
