Logan Mat Cutter Accessory purchase Review by Mad Jack Flint

Some time ago I lost the original cutter for a Logan Compact Classic mat cutter. Looking for the replacement cutter was easy at the local Blick Art store. Purchase made - done deal - sort of. As soon as I used the cutter for the first time, I noticed the "guides" that match a special track on the "guide bar" were missing. Seems Logan does not include those special guides in the replacement cutter packaging. Back to the store I went, but the "guide feet" are not a shelf-stock item. Neither are they special order - but they must be ordered online. Finding the pieces online was time consuming, as I did not have a part number nor the correct nomenclature. (Still don't as you can tell, they are simply an "accessory kit.") Eventually the correct parts were located on a (somewhat obscure) sub web page and ordered. The inexpensive shipping option actually had the items in my (snail) mail box in very short order. Bully for them. It's great to have the mat cutter back in it's original as-purchased configuration. Now it's time to complete the framing projects. Overall, very happy with the service and speed of the shipping. If it wasn't for needing an obscure item, I'm sure the entire research-to-purchase phase would have gone much more quickly.

Effective and easy to use Review by Becky S.

This simple tool makes cutting a mat on an excellent bevel very simple. I found a very nice video demonstrating it's use on the Logan website, and, while my skills are not as good as those of the guy in the video, it worked perfectly and I ended up with a pretty professional-looking mat. For someone that is not used to cutting mats and does not do this very often, this simple tool is worth the relatively low cost. Definitely worth the money.

To adjust the blade depth on the 2000 Push Style Bevel Cutter, find the blade depth adjustment screw on the bottom of the cutting head. Using a screwdriver, turning the screw clockwise will decrease the blade depth. Turning it counterclockwise will increase the blade depth. See that the blade depth is set so it barely passes through the mat board and only scores into the slipsheet. To bevel-cut an opening on a piece of mat board, first always use a slipsheet. You may find it easier to tape the slipsheet in position onto your work table. Using a ruler, mark out the borders on the back of the mat board and connect the lines. Mark all four borders on the back of the mat board. You may find it helpful to draw an X in the middle of the opening. This reminds you that the cutting head needs to ride on the inside of the lines. Using a suitable straight edge, align it alongside one of the four borders. Rest the bevel cutting head against the straight edge and align the start and stop indicator with the pencil line, pressing down on the straight edge and inserting the blade cut from line to line. Make sure you retract the blade after each cut.Repeat this process for all four sides, and you will have a perfectly beveled mat.
