Product Description
These Fastbind 3/8" x 11" Lay-Flat Strips are patented canvas strips allowing to hot melt bind your hard or soft cover with the free-floating spine method. These strips are 11" long and can bind a book upto 3/8" thick. These lay flat strips are a separate step in the perfect binding process to allow for a "floating spine" look, where the book block is bound to the tape strip, and the tape strip/and end sheet hold the block into the hard cover, unlike normal where the book block is glued directly to the hard cover spine. The result of this process is a "library" type book, where there is a tunnel inside the spine area, so the spine "floats" upward when the book is opened, allowing the paper to lay more flat than it would if it was bound to the spine. The weight of the paper pulls up the book spine allowing for the paper to lay more flat than it would. Another advandage is that this is the only way to add a headband material to each side of the book, and it is somewhat a stronger bind as the material is "linen like" and vary good for binding strength.
