Product Description
The GBC Orca 4064 is a top-of-the-line finishing system for thermal and cold lamination and mounting of inkjet and photographic images up to 64" wide and 1" thick. The Orca 4064 utilizes pneumatically controlled roller pressure to improve adhesion. Combined with the large chill idler roller and channeled air cooling system, achieve consistently flat output. You can laminate and mount from either side of the unit using the innovative swivel control panel that goes where you go. Bi-directional operation is further enhanced by the repositionable foot pedal and independently, adjustable nip rollers to enable pressure-sensitive lamination and mounting operations immediately following thermal jobs. No need to wait for the rollers to cool down. The addition of the patented Advanced Electrical Safety System allows you to maximize the output quality without jeopardizing safety. The new AES System consists of three components - fiber optic detection, dynamic braking, and dual processor. These features work together to immediately stop the rollers once an obstruction is detected - no extra revolution - to provide the ultimate in safety. The GBC Falcon 4064 includes GBC?s patented new Advanced Electrical Safety System is designed to protect the operator when running jobs from either side of the machine. The system consists of three components--fiber optic detection, dynamic braking, and a dual processor. The edge-to-edge fiber optic sensors provide full obstacle detection across the width of the roll to eliminate the possibility of failure due to blind spots. Once the sensing beam is broken, the dynamic braking system engages to immediately stop the rollers. The dual processor provides a backup to ensure reliability and maintain consistent performance.
Product Details
- Heated rollers are independently set for maximum control.
- Bi-directional productivity allows hot and cold jobs to be run consecutively without waiting for cool down.
- The ergonomically designed control box swivels to either side in seconds.
- Pneumatic pressure adjustments ensure consistency from job to job.
- Pre-determined shim settings allow quick gap adjustments when changing between lamination and mounting applications.
- Foot pedal provides hands-free control accessible from either side of the unit.
- Roll-to-roll applications benefit from an edge roller on both the front and rear feed tables.
- Identical silicone-coated main and pull rollers provide the same amount of pressure in either direction.
Loading and Feeding:
- Film shafts swing out for easy loading and unloading.
- Front and rear feed tables fold down for easy access to rollers.
- Multiple unwinds and rewinds allow numerous application set-ups and greater operational flexibility.
- Advanced Electrical Safety System protects fingers from harm while feeding.
- Unique pressure plate flattens leading edge of curled prints for improved feeding.
Finishing:
- Steel idler roller cools thermal prints while nip steel rollers provide optimum pressure for flat output.
- Two in-line edge slitters save trimming time.
- Infrared alloy heaters reduce heat-up time and maintain consistent temperature across the roller for better lamination quality.

GBC Orca 4064 Wide-Format Laminator Review
General Binding Corporation (GBC) manufactures some excellent laminators including the Orca 4064. This machine is a wide-format laminator that can be used with all of your big documents. Let’s check out this machine’s strengths and weaknesses so you can decide if this is the device you need.
Strengths:
- The Orca 4064 is a great device to use if you need to laminate really large items. This machine can process documents that are up to 64 inches wide so you’ll be able to process point-of-purchase displays, photographs, signs, and more.
- This machine can process up to 20 feet of material in just one minute. This makes it one of the fastest wide-format laminators available. You’ll be able to get your work done in no time when you use this device.
- The Orca 4063 can use laminating film that’s up to 10 mil thick. The film rolls can be as wide as 10 inches so long as there’s a 3-inch core. AccuShield, Arctic, and Octiva films are all compatible with this device.
- This machine can also handle mounting boards so you can create eye-catching visual aids. All materials you laminate with this device can be up to 1 inch thick.
- This device is capable of laminating at temperature up to 300 degrees Fahrenheit. Each roller is heated individually so you’ll have more control over the process. (Your documents will also look better than they would if they were processed on a traditional laminator.) Also, this machine has a cold setting so you’ll be able to process thermally sensitive documents.
- The Orca 4064 is equipped with a patented Advanced Electrical Safety System. This system includes an automatic shut-off feature that will cause the machine to power off after it hasn’t been used for a while, thus keeping the motor in good shape and reducing the risk of fire. There are also fiber optic sensors that can detect when something is amiss with the rollers. When this occurs, the machine will cease operating so you can take care of the problem.
- It’s possible to laminate documents from either side of this machine. The control panel has the ability to swivel around so you can work in whatever position is most comfortable for you.
Weaknesses:
- You’ll need to have a lot of free space for this laminator because it measures 86” (width) x 33.5” (depth) x 57” (height). Moving it will be extremely challenging since it weighs 2,200 pounds.
- The Orca 4064’s warranty could be better. It only lasts for one year while labor is covered for a mere 90 days.
The GBC Orca 4064 is definitely a high-quality wide-format laminator and it’s one that’s perfect for print shops, advertising agencies, and more. This device will enable you to produce high-quality documents while also staying safe thanks to the Advanced Electrical Safety System. It’s great that each roller is heated separately and that you can insert your items from either side of the machine. While the warranty could be a bit more generous, the Orca 4604 is the device you need if you’re passionate about laminating. Be sure to take a look at it to see for yourself what it can do.
