Handheld Pencil Sharpeners

A canister sharpener catches wood and graphite shavings inside an attached container, making it useful for desks, bags, meeting rooms, and other areas where loose debris would be inconvenient. An open sharpener is smaller and easier to carry, but it must be used over a wastebasket or another surface that can collect the shavings. When choosing a canister model, look at how securely the lid attaches and how easily the container can be emptied. A loose lid may open inside a bag, while an awkward container may be difficult to clean. Transparent or lightly tinted containers can also help users see when the shavings need to be emptied. A rotary model is generally more practical when many pencils are sharpened regularly or when users want greater control over the finished point. Turn the pencil gently and evenly rather than applying heavy pressure. A removable shavings container, firmly attached lid, replaceable or durable blade, and easy-to-clean body all make maintenance simpler. A transparent container helps prevent overfilling, which can block the blade area and cause shavings to spill when the cap is removed. The opening should also allow trapped fragments to be cleared without placing fingers near the cutting edge.
