First, you can take the backstop and insert it into the channel cut out in the board.
Then unlock the blade.
Now insert your project and cut away.
The backstop fits very snuggly in the channel, and wiggling it from the sides is the easiest way to get it out. The dotted lines are half in measurements, and the solid lines are the centimeter measurements.
There is also some common sizes labeled on the board, and some common angles.

Some cutters I use do not produce a straight line by using the top edge as a guide—this one did a decent job, but usually you are better off by using the lines as your guide.
I tried cutting through 20 pages, 15, pages, and 12 pages. It claims to do 15, but I recommend 12 as a better maximum. The lesser pages you cut at a time, the cleaner your cut will be.
