Welcome to MyBinding video. Let's have a look at the Xyron Personal Cutting System. Built for the scrapbooker in mind, this Xyron system will revolutionize the way that you choose, cut, and create fonts and shapes in three different sizes. This complete system comes with two starter books, one an alphabet font book and the second is a shapes and designs book. The actual cutting machine is simple and compact; the bottom slides right out and the books snap right in. Once snapped in, the computer displays which book you're using. The different pages in the book have different tabs. Pressing them in lets the computer know which page you're on, and then tapping the design tells it which design you've selected. The plus and the minus on the right hand side select the size, small, medium, or large.
Right in the front of the machine is the cutting tray. Simply slide it out and remove the plastic cover. And then you place any color or kind of paper on top of that to make your cuts from. It's a reusable adhesive, so it keeps your paper in place for many, many projects. Simply push the green button for go and the machine does all the work by itself and lets you know from the display screen when it's done. At that point, you remove the tray and your project is finished. The kit includes these tweezers that help you remove the project from the adhesive without making any damages. The Personal Cutting System is quick, quiet, and seemingly endless in its abilities to create different designs, borders, and shapes. In addition to the two books already included, Xyron has created plenty of other books with more fonts.
The possibilities seem endless with this machine, however there are a couple of limitations. This machine will only cut fonts and shapes that are in the books. Additional books will cost extra money. The cutting tray itself is reusable but eventually will wear out and you'll need to replace it. And the cutting tray is only four by four inches, so if you want to have larger shapes than that, it's just not going to happen. And as expected, the blade will grow dull over time and need to be replaced.

A true cutting play unit, the Xyron Personal Cutting System offers the most efficient finishing for creating and adding custom cut items for scrapbook pages, cards and other paper craft projects.
To begin using the Xyron Personal Cutting System, connect the power cord to the unit and plug in to an electrical outlet. Power the ‘power’ button on the back of the Personal Cutting System to the ‘on’ position. After a brief welcome screen, you’ll be prompted to open the design dock and insert the book. To open the dock, press the button gently, press in until the locker releases the super small clip ting, and then pull forward.
When the dock is fully extended, insert the chosen design book into the dock by aligning the tip of the spine of the book to the receptacle in the centre of the dock. After the book is in place, the LCD screen will display the name of the book and prompt you to load paper and insert into the cutting tray. Paper should be press firmly onto the cutting tray, aligned to the left upper most corner. Designed to use 4 by 4 papers and a variety of styles and weight, from melamine tissues to textured fibre card stock, the Personal Cutting System requires no blade adjustments when operating between paper cuts.
Next, you’ll be prompted to select the size and shape or letters you want to cut. Every element in Xyron’s collection of light weight design books can be cut in 3 preset sizes, ranging from ¼” to 4” depending on the design. In fact, the 2 design books that come with the Xyron Personal Cutting System put nearly 520 cutting options at your finger tips.
To start cutting, open the design book to the desired page and lightly press the page tab as the corresponding block sensors. To select the defaults or medium size design, press the number support on its spine. If you want to cut the element in a different size, select the ‘minus’ for small or the ‘plus’ for large and followed by the shape or letter.
The number of your selected design will appear on the LCD, preceded by a ‘plus’ mark in the case of a large size selection or a ‘minus’ if a small size is desired. The number will work by itself when at the de-block sizing. When all your designs are selected, press the green check mark to begin cutting.
Remove the cutting tray when the LCD indicates the cut is complete. Use the back of the tweezers included in your Xyron Personal Cutting System to easily remove away the excess paper and your cut design from the cutting tray. Using a tweezers will extend the life of your mat and reduce in unnecessary contact with the adhesive surface.
With your design at hand, all you need to do now is apply adhesives and add to your project for perfect results every time.

There are a lot of scrapbooking products available, from the books themselves to stickers, appliques, and other supplies. One device that could potentially make this particular craft more enjoyable is the Xyron Personal Cutting system, a die cutter that creates shapes for use in all kinds of paper crafts and other creative projects. Here are the strengths and weaknesses of this machine.
Strengths:
- The Personal Cutting System is a computerized die cutter than can cut out designs and letters for use in a variety of different crafts, such as scrapbooks and greeting cards.
- There are literally hundreds of designs and fonts you can cut with this machine. They can be found in Xyron design books that work with the machine in much the same way a diskette would work with a PC. The machine itself comes with two books to get you started and after that, you can purchase the additional books if you want. Some of the books have specialized designs that would be great for using on holiday cards or creating vacation photo albums.
- You can use both thin and thick paper with this device. You can even use 80 lb. cardstock if you need to make something sturdy. Just make sure the paper measures 4″ x 4″ before placing it in the paper tray. You can make small, medium, and large cut-outs with your paper, with the largest ones being slightly smaller than the above dimensions.
- This device was designed to be portable so you can use it while crafting with a group of friends. Xyron has even put out a specialized tote bag for this product that is sold separately.
- This cutting tool comes with a one-year warranty.
Weaknesses:
- One of the first things you will likely notice about this machine is that is pink, as is the carrying bag that is sold separately. While some users won’t mind – or will actually like – the color, other potential users might not be so enamored of it. For example, because of the color, it’s difficult to see this product appealing to boys and men.
- Although this machine comes with two design books, if you really want a variety of shapes and fonts, you’ll need to purchase additional books. The books cost approximately $19.99 each so if you want a lot of design options, it will cost you a lot of money, unfortunately.
- This device is pretty well-constructed, but you should be aware that if you use your machine a lot – and especially if you cut a lot of thicker papers – the blade will need to be replaced.
- This machine doesn’t have the capability of letting you design your own die cut shapes. Although the design books have a lot of different designs to offer, you might feel somewhat hampered by the selection, especially if you’re really creative.
- The price of this device could be a pro or con depending on your budget and if the machine is right for you. It retails for $89.99. As mentioned before, additional design books will cost extra.
Overall, the Xyron Personal Cutting System is a bit of a mixed bag. While it’s great that there are so many design books available, they’re a bit pricey, and plus, you can’t create your own designs. The device is easy to use and it’s nice that it’s so portable, but again, the color might turn off some potential users. In the end, this device would be good for die-hard crafters (especially scrapbookers) who can live with the color and limitations of this cutting system.
