These black 1-1/2" plastic combs are some of the highest quality binding combs on the market and are designed to fit any standard plastic comb binding machine . Hand-rolled to provide a smooth glossy finish, these 1-1/2" black combs allow pages to flip freely and lie flat for easy reading and margin to margin photocopying. Designed for use with 8.5" x 11" pages, these 1-1/2" spines can hold about 320 sheets. Each 19-ring black 1-1/2" plastic binding comb is made of rigid PVC plastic that won't scratch, chip, peel, or discolor. Get 100 black 1-1/2" plastic combs with every order. Product number PC112BK.
Note: The size of the plastic comb should always be 1/8" thicker than the size of the book. To determine the size of comb that you need, measure the thickness of your book (including covers) and add 1/8".

Thank you for your question. The holes are there to lock in the tines of the spine that line up with those holes. It works best with the locking comb "teeth" starting on the out side of the spine and tucking back inside through the locking hole.

Most legal size documents will punch 24 holes. We do carry 24 ring combs. You can find them here

More than likely 500 sheets will be a little bit too many. At 2 inch comb can usually hold approximately 425 sheets of 20lb bond paper. However, the easiest way to tell is to measure your printed book and add 1/4" (for larger sized combs). If you need to bind 500 sheets you will most likely need to split the document into two volumes or consider another binding method such as a ring binder, hot knife Velobind strip or screw posts.
