A combination machine like the Lassco Wizer models adds interchangeable perforating wheels alongside scoring, giving more versatility if your jobs also need perforated tear lines. If creasing accuracy for digital print is your main concern, a dedicated creaser is built specifically for that; if your work regularly needs both scoring and perforating, a combination machine avoids needing two separate tools.

The PPSM is specifically built for compatibility with Fastback 15xs and Fastback 20 Strip/Tape Binding Machines, so its main value is producing clean, accurate score lines for covers that will be bound on those specific machines. If you don't own a compatible Fastback binder, a general-purpose scoring machine like the Lassco Wizer or Graphic Whizard CreaseMaster would serve broader scoring needs without being tied to one specific binding brand. Graphic Whizard scoring equipment is a reasonable starting point if you want that flexibility.

This matters specifically for materials with heavy toner coverage along the fold line, since standard creasing can cause visible cracks in the printed image at that point. If your jobs are primarily offset-printed or lightly printed near the fold, a standard creasing method may be sufficient, but for digital print with heavy toner near fold lines, the channel system reduces that cracking risk.

The C500 is rated as a heavy-duty option handling materials up to 400 g/m², built for thicker or denser stock than the standard C400 is designed for, while still allowing multiple creases in one setup for efficient production. If your typical jobs use standard cover-weight stock, the C400 is generally sufficient; for consistently heavier or denser material, the C500's higher-capacity rating avoids straining a machine not built for that thickness range. Scoring is one piece of a larger finishing workflow — finishing equipment rounds out the cutting, folding, and creasing tools that often pair with it.
