The sealing area must accommodate the product after it has been placed inside the shrink film. Measure the full package length, width, and height, then account for the film needed to wrap around the product and create a complete seal. The product should fit comfortably within the sealing frame without pressing against its edges. Using finished product dimensions alone can underestimate the required opening because the film and package height affect positioning. If several products will be wrapped, base the decision on the largest recurring item and ensure smaller products can still be handled efficiently. The maximum film width must also suit the selected package and sealing arrangement.

The wrapped product must pass through the tunnel opening without touching the top or sides. Allow clearance for the loose film before it shrinks, as well as small variations in how products sit on the conveyor. A tunnel that is barely large enough can cause packages to catch, distort, or receive uneven heat exposure. When package dimensions vary widely, the broader range of shrink wrap equipment can provide other sealing and shrinking configurations suited to different product sizes and workflows. Tunnel size should be selected alongside conveyor width, product height, film type, and production speed rather than treated as a separate measurement.

The stated package rate should be considered alongside the time required to load film, position the product, complete the seal, and move it through the tunnel. Actual output will depend on package size, operator experience, film behaviour, tunnel temperature, and conveyor speed. A system capable of a high rate may still produce less when packages need careful positioning or frequent size changes. Estimate normal hourly demand and allow enough capacity for busy periods without buying equipment that is unnecessarily large. The sealing and shrinking stages should remain balanced so one part of the system does not continually wait for the other.

The film must suit the product, sealer, tunnel temperature range, and desired finished appearance. Polyolefin, PVC, and polyethylene films can behave differently during sealing and shrinking, so the correct material should be chosen before machine settings are established. Consider film width, gauge, shrink direction, product weight, ventilation requirements, clarity, and whether food contact or other application-specific standards apply. The options within shrink-wrap film can be narrowed according to the packaging task and equipment. Testing the intended film and product together is useful before committing to a large supply order, especially when package shape, sharp edges, or heat sensitivity could affect the finished result.
