You undo the lock one-handed by moving it down and out to the right. As you lift the blade, the automatic paper clamp moves into place to hold your work securely. When all lined up on the grid, make your cut. Clean up is simple and you lift the blade to release your paper. The Vantage 18E comes with a removable fence. This allows you to tighten down and make consistent cuts through many projects. The all-metal base is not only lightweight, it's also very long. At 18 inches, oversize documents are no problem. The Dahle Vantage 18E claims to cut up to 15 sheets of 20lb paper at a time. However, when we tried 15 sheets, we had a difficult time. So, we tried for 12, and that seemed to be the ticket and worked really well. When the blade and the fence are locked down, it's very lightweight and easily portable around the office. Unboxed it and used it immediately. I bought this for my high school classroom, and the students were able to use it with no issues and no worries. The blade is not the typical guillotine, but more like a block. Cuts through two sheets of railroad board easily, but pushing it with three. The clamp holds down the paper well, and the spring action holds up the blade as it claimed. No issues so far, but only had it a week. I love that it is small and portable and takes up only a small amount of space. Very lightweight, yet sturdy. Good product.
