The HSM 450.2cc is a high performance shredder ideal for office floors, departments, or even smaller industrial use. With a large collecting capacity and a handy filling hopper, this machine is built to take in sizable amounts of waste at once, including crumpled paper and multimedia data storage. It also offers simple operation and convenient automatic features. Let's take a closer look at the 450.2cc.

Strengths:

• Primarily automated use provides easy use. While this machine does offer keypad controls for constant operation and reverse, a modern electronic controller does the rest for you. A photoelectric cell senses paper in the feed and begins shredding on cue. The same device turns off the blades after everything is through. When not in use, the motor idles in standby. If a paper jam occurs, the auto reverse kicks in and sends the clogged items back out to the user.

• On the top of the machine is the filling hopper. A lever opens up the top, allowing entire waste bins to dump into the hopper. Flip the lever again and it closes up, sending the trash to the rotating loading aid that ensures continuous, smooth feeding. A smaller opening allows more wads to enter during shredding. There is also a wide 17.4 inch slot for flat waste that takes up to 70 sheets at once. Items shred as fast as 41 feet per minute and can include staples, paperclips, credit cards, CDs and floppy disks.

• The cross cutting mechanism swiftly converts full size documents into tiny pieces, only 1/8" by 2" in size. These small chads provide a level 3 security rating. This is excellent for general office shredding as well as confidential business and personal documents.

• Paper confetti floats down into a voluminous 76.6 gallon shred bag. A removable trolly houses the sturdy reusable bag and offers simple emptying and replacement. When the bag is full or the cabinet door is open, the motor automatically stops the blades for additional safety.

• The solid steel cutting shafts are guaranteed by a 20 year warranty. The rest of the shredder carries two year coverage on parts and labor.

Weaknesses:

• Weighing 485 pounds, this is a heavy piece of machinery. Even so, there are casters on the bottom for easier portability if you need to move it. We think this won't be much of a problem for most users.

• The tiny bits only offer a medium level three security. While this is great for most confidential office documents, highly classified material needs to go through a high security device. We suggest the 411.2 Level 5 or 6.

• As expected in a high capacity machine, this one is large and bulky. Smaller offices won't need this large of a shredder. While investing in a better device than you actually need is often smart, make sure you're purchasing the right shredder for the size of your office.

Overall, the HSM 450.2cc is an ideal system for large businesses. Especially handy with crumpled paper, this shredder is built to quickly destroy large quantities of material in various forms.
