This HSM Shredstar X20 Level P-4 Cross-Cut Shredder can shred up to 20 sheets of 20lb document into 5/32" x 1 7/16" cross-cut particles. This paper shredder has a 9" throat opening, 6.9 gallon shred bin volume and has a separate CD cutting unit with own waste container for sorted disposal. Why complain? I see no reason.

I've run about 40 lbs of paper through this unit. No jams, no overheating. Quiet enough to watch t.v. while shredding. I've read complaints about being slow, I think that's probably a trade off between speed & noise. Never found myself wishing it was faster. The size is perfect for small business or a household that's catching up on years of archived paperwork. Unit does stop when paper level in bin gets high. It appears to be an optical detector which often triggers way before it gets to the point of causing a jam. Bin does slide on rollers though and easily slides out for a quick shakedown of fluffy shreddings. Repeat that 3 or 4 times then it's time to empty the bin. I would buy this again in a heartbeat. I usually shred about 9 sheets at a time. It takes 14 but does have to labor at it. Why overload it by running 14 all the time. Chews through cd's and credit cards, no problem.

Fairly quiet and solidly built

Nice shredder, much quieter than last one I owned. Seems solidly built, doesn't bog down with average amount of junk mail in one envelope. There's a window built into the basket to see how much paper has been shredded but can't see through it--doesn't matter, a filled basket light comes on and the shredder stops when near full. Basket is a little over 1/2 full when the light comes on, can be tamped down to shred more before the basket is really full. Giving 4 stars instead of 5 because there is no practical way to mount a garbage bag inside of the basket. Unless you have a large garbage bag to dump the shredded paper into, some of the shredded material ends up on the floor. Not a big deal but somewhat annoying.

Absolutely Awesome paper eater!! Hint to keep bin spotless

OK, Had a Staples unit, cost a lot, jammed and destroyed itself. Tech support no help. Bought this unit. Was heavy, solid construction. set it up have had for 6 mo. .. seems like it wants to eat paper is absolutely awesome. Just grinds them into shards. OK if you want to keep the bin clean, especially went you put a little oil in to lubricate the grinders , here is what you do. Get a Safeway/ Trader Joe's/ Piggly \Wiggly etc. paper bag. Cut the sides down about 2 inches and fold edges back. Tape to side of bin with scotch tape. Shardes fall into bag, even with oil--- no mess. When full pull the bag,, staple the top shut , ,put in trash, and make another. I love it!! JNW
