OLFA highly recommends the use of an OLFA cutting mat to prolong the life of the blade and for surface protection.

Well-made tool and cuts plastic shelf liners

Cuts like a breeze. I used it to cut plastic shelf liners. I think it wore the blade pretty quickly; had to buy the replacements after doing about a dozen. But I'm not sure if plastic is the intended purpose. Will still use for this purpose, along with fabric items.

Handy Cutter!

Larger size wheel is great for making long, straight cuts in many materials. Excellent Quality! Sometimes a sharp utility knife will shred some materials. The wheel cutter slices through without drag. Nice!

HIGHLY recommended to other new quilters

I bought a Fiskars cutter first & struggled with it. I noticed that Olfas are pictured in a lot of quilting books and blogs, so I ordered this, and it made a HUGE difference for me. I like the straight handle. The blade is slightly smaller (but much sharper) than the Fiskar's blade, and this makes cuts easier for me, too.
