Welcome to MyBinding Video. This is the Tamerica Versabind E, a modular electric binding machine. This all-one-system allows you to bind four different binding styles with one machine. Let's watch it in action with this spiral coil. Regardless of the modular punch you're using, the side margin control knob helps to set a stop so that all the punches are consistent throughout your entire project. Here with the scrap paper you see the half-punched hole. This is remedied by the fact that all the pins on all of the dies are removable. On the side of the machine is the depth of margin control knob with four different settings. This will allow you to punch thinner or thicker margins according to the size and thickness of your book.
With your side margin and depth of margin controls in place, it's time to make your book. Begin with the covers, if you start with your project face up, make sure you process the whole project face up. The electronic foot or hand pedal on this Versabind-E is really handy, especially when you're punching 20 sheets of 20lb paper per punch. Once you started the spiral coil onto this spine, roll it into this groove with your hand all the way down so it runs the full length of the book. And then with coil crimping pliers, pinch off the ends and you're all done. But the greatest asset of the Versabind system are the modulator units. Four are included with the machine with 2- and 3:1 pitch wire, 4:1 pitch coil, and plastic comb. Each unit comes with a cheat sheet on how to bind with that style and what sizes you might need. And a simple turning of this screw on the right hand side allows you to slide out with one die and replace it with the different one, in this case the plastic comb die. Replace the screw to hold it in place and you can continue on with this kind of binding. The comb opener is located at the top of the machine where then you can open the comb, thread your book over the teeth of the comb, close it up, and you're all done.
When it comes to wire binding the Versabind does not have a fence but it has a holder to hold the wire in place while you drape your book over it. With the book all lined up, remove it from the holder and open this lid here, which is the wire closer. You adjust the size of the wire you are using, close it with the small handle on the right hand side, and you're all set. After changing the out the die, the 2:1 and 3:1 wire work the same way, just make your adjustment on the closer. And that is the Versabind-E by Tamerica.
