Swingline Ingento 30" x 30" Maple Guillotine Cutter Review
The Ingento 30" x 30" is a member of the proud and popular Ingento line by Swingline. Here is a list of what we consider to be some of this machine's strengths as well as some its weaknesses.
Strengths and Features:
-
Sometimes a name alone is enough to recommend a product, and this may very well be the case for the Ingento 30" x 30". The Ingento line of paper trimmers would probably have to be considered the gold standard of paper cutters, if there is such a thing. A wildly popular line, you will find these machines in use in businesses, schools, churches, and copy and print shops all over the world. If mere sales and popularity are enough to sway you, then you probably need to look no further for your paper trimmer.
-
Of course there are good reasons for this kind of popularity, one of which would have to be considered the quality of the build. The Ingento line features a base that is made out of solid wood (maple), and a cutting arm that is made of dies cast metal. As the largest of the desk or table top-type Ingento cutters, you will notice that the Ingento 30" x 30" is a rock solid workhorse that is clearly meant to last for years and years. There are not a lot of things you can say that about these days, so it's nice to see somebody still caring about that sort of longevity.
-
The 30" cutting length of this machine gives you all sort of flexibility. Not only can you process all of the common paper sizes (such as letter and legal) with ease, you can work with much larger custom sheets as well, and even cut and trim booklet size sheets in a lengthwise fashion, essentially doubling your productivity.
-
The blade on this machine is made of high-quality stainless steel and is designed to sharpen itself during use. If need be, however, the blade can be removed and sharpened professionally or replaced entirely if damaged. Either option is a whole lot cheaper than purchasing a whole new guillotine cutter.
-
The blade can handle 15 sheets of normal office paper at one time, and can also process heavier stocks such as construction paper, photos, and laminated sheets, as well as presentation materials. This kind of versatility makes it a great choice for copy shops and schools.
-
When you are looking at paper cutters, you will always want to give serious consideration fo safety features, and the Ingento 30" x 30" has three that are worth noting: there's a latch to keep the blade locked in the down position when not in use, and guard rail that keeps fingers out of the way of the blade, and a spring tension system that holds the blade tightly in place in any position so it will never come down accidentally.
Weaknesses and Limitations:
-
The 15 sheet cutting capacity is enough to get most users through medium sized projects, but if you are a shop that is cutting hundreds of pages in a typical day, you might want to get a machine with a higher capacity to increase productivity.
-
The safety features are great, but no substitute for common sense. Like all guillotine paper cutters, this machine should only be used by experienced adults.
