A clamp mount attaches to the desk edge and works well when the edge is accessible and strong enough to support the equipment. A grommet mount uses an existing desk opening or a properly prepared hole and can provide a secure central position. A freestanding base avoids attaching hardware to the desk, but it occupies more surface space and must remain stable under the monitor load. Before ordering, measure the desktop thickness, inspect the underside for obstructions, and consider whether the desk may be moved later. Glass, hollow, or unusually shaped desks may require special care.

Choose according to the number of displays, their individual weights, and the arrangement required for daily work. A dual or triple arm does not automatically support every group of monitors, because the total load and each arm’s individual limit still apply. Measure the width of the screens and make sure they can sit side by side without hitting walls, dividers, or each other. The arm should allow the screen to reach a comfortable height, viewing distance, tilt, and rotation for the primary user. Sit-stand workstations often require a broader vertical range because the screen must remain correctly positioned in both working heights. Consider whether the monitor needs to rotate into portrait orientation or move aside for collaborative work. Adjustment quality matters most when several people share the workstation. Before purchase, measure the desired screen-center height from the desktop and the distance from the mounting point to the normal viewing position. These measurements help determine whether the arm’s reach is practical.

Inspect the desktop material, thickness, edge shape, grommet opening, underside clearance, and available room behind the desk. Confirm that the mounting area can support the total weight of the arm and display without flexing. Cable length must allow the monitor to move through its full range without pulling on connections. For sit-stand setups, cords should remain loose enough at both minimum and maximum desk heights.
