Paper weight makes a significant difference, so a sheet-capacity estimate should only be used as a guide. A report containing heavy paper or plastic covers may require more spine space than the same number of ordinary copy sheets. When the measured thickness sits close to a width limit, make one complete sample. Allow it to cool fully and open it several times to confirm that the pages remain secure, the strip fits the spine correctly, and the finished book does not feel compressed or oversized.

LX Strips are generally used with ordinary uncoated paper that allows the thermal adhesive to bond reliably along the spine edge. Coated, glossy, photo, or very smooth stock may need another strip family or special preparation. Heavy ink or toner coverage near the binding edge can also make adhesion more difficult. Use the actual printed sheets for testing rather than blank samples because the printed surface can behave differently. Assemble the complete document, bind it using the correct machine mode, allow it to cool fully, and inspect the spine before producing the remaining quantity. Do not change paper stock, printer type, cover material, or finishing method without completing another sample bind using the revised materials.

Choose the strip length according to the edge being bound rather than the paper name alone. Standard portrait letter-size documents are normally bound along the eleven-inch edge, while landscape layouts, half-size projects, or other formats may require another length. Confirm the final orientation before ordering because the same sheet size can be bound on different edges.
