Paper folders have limits for sheet weight, size, coating, and condition. Standard uncoated office paper often feeds through friction systems reliably, while glossy, coated, static-prone, curled, or heavily printed stock may require different feeding technology or additional preparation. Confirm the machine rating using the actual material, not only the nominal paper weight. Grain direction and humidity can also affect folding quality. Test several sheets from the final print run and inspect feeding, skew, cracking, and fold consistency. When the stock is heavier than the machine supports, repeated jams or poor folds may result. A folder cannot correct paper that is damp, badly curled, or outside its operating range, so material selection remains part of the equipment decision.

Choose capacity from daily and weekly workload, batch size, turnaround time, and how often the machine will be reloaded. A small office folder can suit occasional letters, while repeated mailings and longer runs may need a larger feed tray and stronger duty level. Medium-volume paper folders keep regular production requirements connected to equipment designed for more than light desktop work. Do not choose only from the highest speed figure. Setup, feeding, unloading, paper condition, and fold changes all affect real output. Allow capacity above normal demand so the machine is not operated at its practical limit throughout every run. A representative timed test gives a more useful estimate than speed specifications alone.

Heavier cover stock, coated sheets, and digitally printed material may crack or split along the fold, especially when the fold runs against the grain or passes through heavy toner. Scoring creates a controlled crease that helps the sheet fold more cleanly. Determine whether scoring is required by testing the actual printed stock, since paper weight alone does not tell the full story. A folder designed mainly for standard bond paper may not process thick or coated material well even after scoring. Inspect the finished fold for cracking, toner loss, spring-back, and panel alignment. When high-quality brochures or covers are involved, scoring and folding should be planned as connected finishing steps rather than forcing unsuitable stock through an office folder.

Keep rollers and feed areas clean, remove paper dust, and follow the machine guide for approved cleaning products and service intervals. Static, coating residue, worn rollers, misaligned guides, and damaged sheets can all cause double feeds, skew, or jams. Paper folder accessories support routine care when the selected item is approved for the equipment. Record recurring faults along with paper type and settings so patterns are easier to identify. Do not use household solvents on rubber or sensors. Before each long run, inspect the tray, guides, fold plates, and receiving area, then test a small batch. Regular maintenance is more reliable than repeated setting changes made after feeding has already become inconsistent.
