Choose narrow, medium, or wide from the measured thickness of the complete document. Covers, coated stocks, tabs, and folded inserts should be included before measurement. A narrow strip on a thick stack may not provide enough adhesive coverage, while an unnecessarily wide strip can leave an oversized spine. Do not rely on sheet count alone because paper caliper varies. Make one complete sample when the job uses a new stock combination, then label it with the approved strip width. Recurring manuals and reports can use that sample as a physical sizing reference. This is especially useful when several operators prepare the same job at different times.

Super Strip length should match the binding edge of the finished document. Super Strips by length include formats for common document sizes, but orientation must be considered before ordering. An 11-inch strip suits a standard letter binding edge, while other formats may require a different length. Do not trim a strip unless the machine and supply instructions support that method, since cutting can affect adhesive coverage or barcode placement. During setup, align one unused strip with the squared document edge and confirm even spacing at both ends. This prevents exposed adhesive and a spine that appears shifted after binding. Keep approved samples for unusual trim sizes or horizontal formats.

Yellow can support brand colors, department identification, edition coding, or quick sorting among finished documents. The color decision should follow compatibility, width, and length because appearance cannot correct an unsuitable strip. Consider the front and back covers, printed title, and any spine text together. Yellow may create strong contrast against black, navy, gray, or dark green covers, while it can blend more softly with cream or warm-toned stocks. Produce one completed sample under normal lighting before ordering a large quantity. The sample should confirm both the visual result and the quality of the thermal bond. Keep the approved sample with the job specification for future production.

Super Strips use a permanent thermal adhesive process and should be stored flat, cool, and dry in their original packaging. Fastback binding supplies should remain organized by strip family, length, width, and color so the correct item can be selected quickly. Keep boxes away from direct sunlight, heating vents, laminators, and other warm equipment that could affect adhesive performance. Rotate older stock forward and test strips that have been stored for an extended period. If the spine lifts, adhesive activates unevenly, or sheets release after cooling, do not use that stock for finished work. Record the box date when new stock is received and opened.
