A larger capacity can reduce loading, but only when the table, guides, and operator can keep the thicker lift square. Measure a representative stack and account for future recurring work. Clean, moderate lifts often produce more consistent holes and less heat than repeatedly pushing the maximum capacity.

A multiple spindle machine creates several holes in one cycle, which reduces stack movement when the same pattern is repeated across many jobs. This format is useful for standard filing holes, binders, forms, and other work where spacing remains consistent. A hole that is too tight can restrict movement or tear during use, while one that is unnecessarily large may weaken the edge. Consider paper type, stack thickness, and the distance from the sheet edge. Keep a correctly drilled sample with the job specification for repeated work. Bits are wear items, so cutting quality should be monitored for rough edges, excess heat, paper welding, or plugs that do not clear properly.

Keep the correct replacement bits, drill wax or approved lubricant, cutting blocks, setup tools, and waste handling parts required by the machine. The options within paper drill bits must match the drill model and the hole sizes used most often. A dull or blocked bit can create heat, rough holes, and sheets that stick together around the opening. Cutting blocks should be rotated or replaced according to the equipment instructions so the bit has a suitable support surface. Empty chip cups and clear paper plugs regularly. Staff should follow shutdown and safety procedures before servicing the drill, and maintenance dates should be recorded for equipment used in recurring production.
