How do I use a Pouch Board Laminator?
Pouch board laminators can only do one thing but they do it really well. These machines are designed for the sole purpose of mounting images with pouch board. This means that they may not be the best option for everyone but are the perfect choice for sign shops, photographers, or anyone else whose laminated projects are almost always mounted.
What is a Pouch Board?
A pouch board is a mounting board with a laminating film sheath. All you need to do is insert your document and run it through a pouch board laminator to have a beautifully laminated and mounted sign. This turns what is usually a two to three-step process into one easy motion. Pouch boards come in all different sizes, finishes, and board types and thicknesses to accommodate all types of mounting.
How to Pouch Board Laminate
- Turn on laminator and allow to preheat
- Pull or roll up the laminate sheet
- Place and position your print
- Place laminate sheet on top
- Set laminator’s roller gap to proper board thickness
- Insert pouch board connected edge first
- Allow to rollers to pull the print through the laminator
- Admire your mounted print
Can You Regularly Laminate with a Pouch Board Laminator?
Yes and no. Some pouch board laminators offer sleds that can accommodate a basic laminating pouch but this is certainly not the best way to pouch laminate. Unfortunately, it can often be hard to achieve wrinkle or bubble-free lamination with a pouch board laminator and sled but it is not impossible. At the end of the day, if you have a one-off non-mounted lamination job you are probably better off using cold lamination film and laminating without a laminator.
Who Uses Pouch Board Laminators?
We recommend these laminators to people who almost exclusively mount their laminated prints. This is ideal for:
- Photographers and Artists who may want to mount their art to sell.
- Small Businesses and Artisans who want to make displays and signs in-house for their store or market booth.
- Sign Makers who are looking to add efficiency to their workflow, often in addition to their basic roll laminator.
While not for everyone, pouch board laminators mount prints with unbeatable skill and efficiency that can’t be beaten. If you think you are a prime candidate, check out our pouch board laminator selection. Or, if you are still unsure, connect with us and we will help you decide what type of laminator will best fit your needs.
