How To Oil A Paper Shredder?
It is surprising the number of customers that we talk to that own a paper shredder but have no idea how to oil it (or even that it should be oiled). You would never drive your car for 100,000 miles without changing the oil. In the same way, you really shouldn't run your shredder without regularly oiling it. As a general rule you should use shredder oil and lubricate the shredding head after 1hr of continuous shredding (or when you change the shred bag). Strip cut shredders don't need to be oiled quite as often and micro cut shredders or high security shredders will probably need to be oiled even more frequently than this. Whatever type of shredder you have, this video will show you a few different ways to oil your shredder. Watch the video and choose the way that best fits your needs. If you have any questions or comments please feel free to leave them below or give us a call and we will be glad to help you out in any way that we can.

Welcome to MyBinding How To videos. Today's question is how to oil a paper shredder. As soon as you notice that your paper shredder is not shredding like it used to, either capacity or speed or even the way that it sounds, it's time to oil your shredder. All shredders need to be oiled. This video will walk you through three different methods for oiling your shredder. Very important is that you use actual shredder oil. These oils are formulated differently than other kinds of oils for your shredder. Some are packaged to fill containers or tanks that automatically oil your shredder on higher end shredders. And some of them have little spigots or spouts by which you can pour the oil out either using the direct or indirect method of oiling. Method number one is the indirect method. This is where you take shredder oil and you apply it to paper. First off, in an "S" pattern all the way down. And that paper, along with a couple of other sheets of paper, are put into your shredder as if you were shredding a document. Then, turn the reverse button on so the rollers go backwards and fully coat all the gears inside. You should do this for a whole minute. Secondly is the direct method. This is where you apply the oil directly onto the gears yourself by pouring it through the feed spout at the open throat at the top. Careful to keep the oil inside the machine only. And again, run it in reverse for a good solid minute. The third method is to purchase pre-oiled sheets. These are simply papers that come pre-oiled and you run them through your machine. Here at MyBinding, though, we don't really recommend that method. That's it. That's how to oil a paper shredder. For more articles, demos, how to's, and reviews, check out MyBinding.com.
