Move up when daily batches regularly exceed the comfortable feed capacity, operators spend too much time reloading, or the folder becomes a bottleneck during mailing deadlines. Higher volume work may also need faster setup, larger feed trays, stronger rollers, better handling of coated stock, or saved fold programs. Medium volume paper folders are intended for steadier workloads where reliability across repeated batches matters more than compact size. Do not base the decision on one unusually large job. Look at normal monthly demand, peak periods, staff time, and the cost of delays or refolding errors. The correct capacity should handle routine work comfortably and leave some room for growth without introducing equipment that is unnecessarily large or difficult to operate.

A hand fed folder offers more control over individual sheets and can suit small, varied jobs where the operator is already present. It may also be useful for stapled sets when the model specifically supports them. An automatic feed system is better for repeated batches because it pulls sheets from a stack and reduces constant handling. Consider whether jobs change frequently or whether the same paper and fold run for long periods. Automatic feeding saves time only when the stock feeds reliably and the tray capacity matches the batch. Whichever style you choose, confirm paper weight, size, fold range, and setup steps. The best feed method is the one that fits the pace and variety of daily work.

Keep rollers and feed areas clean, remove paper dust, and follow the manufacturer’s maintenance schedule. Worn or dirty rollers can cause double feeds, slipping, skewed sheets, and inconsistent fold positions. Store paper in a stable environment so moisture, curl, or static do not create avoidable feeding problems. Paper folder accessories may include cleaning supplies, replacement parts, stands, or static control items that support the equipment, but only use parts approved for the exact model. Do not spray general cleaners directly into the machine or scrape rollers with sharp tools. Regular cleaning, correct paper preparation, and prompt replacement of worn components help prevent small feed problems from becoming repeated jams or damaged documents.
