Continuous Bag Sealers

The correct orientation depends mainly on the contents inside the bag. Horizontal models generally suit dry, solid, or stable products that can rest on a conveyor without spilling or shifting toward the seal area. Vertical models keep bags upright, making them more practical for powders, liquids, loose items, and products that settle at the bottom. Consider the filled bag height, weight, center of gravity, and whether the package can travel steadily through the machine. Conveyor height and seal-head adjustment also matter when several bag sizes are processed. Test the intended package format before ordering because an unstable bag can enter the heating section unevenly and produce a crooked or incomplete seal.

The bag must contain a heat-sealable layer that responds properly to the machine’s temperature, pressure, and conveyor speed. Common thermoplastic materials and laminated packaging may work, but similar-looking bags can require very different settings. Obtain the bag manufacturer’s sealing range whenever possible, then test samples using the actual filled package. A temperature that is too low may create a weak seal, while excessive heat can wrinkle, distort, melt, or cut through the material. Businesses working with varied packaging structures may also use direct heat sealers for thicker or coated materials that need steady heat rather than a brief impulse.

Temperature and conveyor speed work together. A slower speed exposes the bag to heat for longer, while a faster speed shortens the heating period. Raising the temperature without considering speed can damage the film, and increasing speed too far may leave the seal incomplete. Begin with the bag supplier’s recommended sealing range and adjust in small steps. Inspect the finished seal for uniform width, wrinkles, burned areas, channels, and sections that separate under light pressure. Filled bags should travel through the sealer at a consistent height so the seal line remains straight. Record successful settings for each bag material and product format to reduce setup time during future production runs.

Useful features include adjustable conveyor height, controlled conveyor speed, stable temperature regulation, an emergency stop, and enough workspace to support filled bags before and after sealing. Direction of feed matters when fitting the machine into an existing packing line. Coding or embossing may be valuable when dates, lot information, or identifiers need to appear near the seal. Maintenance access is also important because sealing bands, heating components, and conveyor parts require inspection and eventual replacement. Lower-volume work that does not require continuous feeding may be handled effectively with impulse sealers, particularly when the machine should remain cool between sealing cycles.
